PETITION
TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES
PACIFIC OAKS COLLEGE AND CHILDREN’S SCHOOL
We the undersigned hereby petition the Board to take the following actions:
1. Issue a statement to the community affirming this Board’s commitment to the mission of Pacific Oaks College and stating that a teach-out, or shutting down the college, is not under consideration.
2. Explain to the community the basis for the President’s memo of June 27, 2007 proposing a plan for teach-out of the College.
3. Provide an explanation of the status of the College budget, as the President’s memo states that there is no approved budget for the College at this time.
4. Independently inform yourselves about the current financial and academic realities at Pacific Oaks.
5. Independently inform yourselves about the Off-Campus programs recently shut down by President Denham.
6. Inform yourselves fully about the realities of the accreditation process and assess the role of the President in making changes that are counter to representations made to WASC at its last visit.
7. Based upon your review of all relevant information, request the resignation of the President. Create a Board/ faculty/staff committee to determine interim leadership for the institution.
8. If the information you have acquired does not seem to you to require a request for the President’s resignation, then immediately initiate a community-wide, 360 degree evaluation of President Carolyn Denham designed and conducted by an independent agency which will guarantee confidentiality to community members.
9. Form a representative committee to assess what needs to be done to sustain Pacific Oaks College in a way that guarantees financial stability and fidelity to its mission.
The Representative Committee would include Life or former PO Trustees, former faculty and administrators, alumni, and representatives from current administration, core faculty and adjunct and off-campus faculty, staff and students.
10. Add to the current Board of Trustees members who truly know and value Pacific Oaks College and who understand and are committed to its mission.
11. Develop procedures which insure that the Board is not insulated and isolated from the Pacific Oaks community and is able to remain well-informed at all times.
